Nature Journal Entry
We follow the Handbook of Nature Study blog (see the link above) and share our own "Nature Challenges" on a blog carnival. Today the Nature Challenge was to find signs of mammals.
| Here is the first mammal we encountered. Dapple lives in the pasture behind our house (he's not ours, though). |
| We all headed for this spot immediately. This is the Groundhog's hole. He's been living there for years. |
| Ana and Dapple |
| Could this be a sign of a mammal? It looks like a walnut has been cracked open ...perhaps by a squirrel. |
| The next few pictures are definitely signs of mammals....human mammals! Above is the creative arrangement of wood, stone, bricks, and scrap metal into a pretend city....some human mammals did this! |
| Unfortunately, this (undisposed of) beer can is also a sign of mammal activity, down by the creek. |
| Ana found this mammal sign IN THE CREEK. How did it get in the creek? We can only guess. |
| And finally, here comes our favorite mammal- our cat Gizmo! |

Awesome!
-Ana :)
I love how you have included human mammals! It is not something that even crossed my mind, but of course you are quite right! ;o)
Some funny mammal signs. The pretend city reminds me of the book Roxaboxen which my teens still remember as a favorite.
The groundhog hole is much bigger than I was expecting.
I think it is interesting how many different kinds of signs there are - homes, footprints, remains of food, etc.
Thanks for sharing.
