But on Tuesday? Oh, it wasn't raining on Tuesday.
No. It was 72 degrees and my kids and Matthew
were....
In the creek!
All I asked was that they keep their creek shoes on
(they each have designated creek shoes to protect their feet from sharp rocks.)
you're hooked. Once you've taken time to step in
the current of the creek, feel the rush of cool mountain water
("with shoes on, kids, please, keep your shoes on!!" pleads the mom)
and taken time to stop and stare into the water
and seen all the life and movement
and crayfish, especially,
and even caught something, with a net
well, you just want to step into every creek you see...
Even in January. If it's 72 degrees, of course.
and then went home.
Today, Handbook of Nature Study blog is having a blog carnival for those of us who participated in the Rock Study in January. If you're looking for a reliable nature education blog by a veteran homeschool mom, this is the place to go. You can find our contribution to the blog carnival here.

That sounds like Arkansas weather. Thanks for reading.
I just found your blog and really enjoyed this post (on this blustery, snowy day). I can't wait for warmer weather! I was in VA a couple times and really love that state! Looks like the kids had a great time! :)
Believe it or not, right now it is snowing! But I don't think it will stick.
It's a good thing my two older ones weren't as I read your blog today. Or they would be begging to go to your house and stomp in the creek!
Make that weren't here!
What a contrast in weather we've all had, and well-captured in your photos of your environment and kids' activities.
Why thank you!
You are such a fun mom! What an excellent way to allow your kids to explore and enjoy God's amazing creation in all types of weather. Way to encourage them to enjoy each and every day ~ so glad you captured those times in photos so we could share the joy!
Thank you for your encouragement!
