Monday morning...
Snow is melting, branches dripping...
and there's a hazy fog settling...
but by mid-morning, the sun was peeking through.
On Sunday afternoon, we went to Roanoke.
Market Building
Market Street
The Hotel Roanoke
Taubman Museum of Art
We went to see the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and the Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra perform in the Performing Arts Theatre at the Roanoke Civic Center. Why thanks, mom, for such a smart Christmas present!
Warming up...
Amie gives me her "seriously?" look.
Don't worry, mom, she loved it.
Together, the two orchestras presented "Sci-Fi and Fantasy Live"....theme music from well-known fantasy/science fiction movies. Some of the pieces included music from The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and E.T.
Our fantastic Roanoke Symphony Orchestra conductor, David Wiley told the audience that he actually talked with John Williams, composer of the music from E.T., Star Wars and countless other feature films. He told us that of all the movie theme music that he has composed, John Williams' favorite theme is the music from the "flying scene" in E.T.
Do you remember the "flying" scene in E.T.? Elliot rides his bike into the sky with E.T. in his bike basket .They're flying! Can you recall the music? I couldn't, until the orchestra played it on Sunday. And it really is "flying music"!
So after the symphony, we went to Metro Restaurant downtown.
The whole afternoon was such a wonderful gift. Thanks, Mom!
And finally- today is Sketch Tuesday at Harmony Fine Arts blog. You'll find a drawing challenge for this week...submit sketches by next Monday, and you will be part of the Tuesday slideshow.
Last week's challenge was to submit drawings inspired by Alaska, so you'll see an Alaska slideshow today...including a sketch by Amie, which you can see directly here.

What awesome downtown photos and a simply wonderful family day! You need to send us your itineraries so we can stalk - I mean follow - you :)
What a great day and a wonderful gift. That is the face I used to give my father when HE took my picture, but it never worked for me either.
Glad you had a good day with "classy" music and food!
